The right application guide for carpet and upholstery stains

Dry soil first, product second

The most common mistake on fabric is applying a liquid product before removing loose dust and dirt. Dampened dust migrates around the stain and leaves a ring once dry. So the first step is always to vacuum or prepare the surface with a soft brush.

The six-step method

1) Prepare the surface: remove loose dust and dirt. 2) Spray the product onto the stain, leaving an even layer without soaking. 3) Wait 1–2 minutes so the formula can penetrate the fibre. 4) Blot from the outside inwards with a clean damp cloth. 5) Repeat if needed. 6) Let the surface dry fully over 24–48 hours.

Blotting is not scrubbing: scrubbing opens fibre ends and causes fuzzing and loss of sheen, while blotting draws the stain into the cloth.

Three frequent mistakes

Using too much product: excess liquid reaches the carpet backing, extends drying time and raises the risk of odour. Reaching for hot water: on protein-based stains such as milk, egg or blood, heat sets the stain. Walking on it before it dries: a half-damp surface picks up soil again.
